Visual Concepts for Illustration

This is a service aimed both at illustrated book publishers and at illustrators, and is a way of tackling the problem of how to illustrate material that sometimes feels almost impossible to illustrate.

There is no secret formula to this. But after more than 25 years working with words and pictures (in magazine journalism and then in illustrated book publishing) some ideas just seem to fall into place.

Working with Ivy Press on a series of non-fiction titles in the ‘Crash Course’ Series, I developed more than 100 visual concepts across a series of themes for books on Religion, Economics, Philosophy and Psychology. Take a look at the slideviewer below to see samples of my visual concepts, followed by the work of illustrators Beady Eyes and Andrea Ucini.
